Buddy Wayne Butler, 83 passed away on March 29, 2025.
Buddy was born on August 16, 1941 in Kermit, Texas, to the late Grady Butler and Dorothea Lewis Butler. In 1964, Buddy married the love of his life, Nancy, at Wayfarers Chapel in California. For 60 wonderful years, they built a life together filled with love and cherished memories. Buddy was a loving husband, father and grandfather; he was affectionately known as “Papaw.” His greatest joys in life were his grandchildren and his passion for hunting and fishing—both of which he eagerly shared with those around. Buddy loved to teach, and he enjoyed passing on his knowledge and love for the great outdoors.
Buddy honorably served in the U.S. Navy and worked for the Department of Defense. These jobs took him around the world from Alaska to Saudi Arabia and many other places. No matter where he went, he carried the spirit of Texas with him.
He was also a man of faith and community, a member of the Good News Club. One special day, a small child recognized him as a member—a testament to the impact he had on those around him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Brandon Orr; and granddaughter, Megan Shae Hill
Buddy is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Butler; children, Wendy Orr, Steve Butler (Deborah), Kris Butler (Olga), Jill Butler Hill (Shane), and Billy Butler; grandchildren, Cody Orr, Ashleigh Butler, Max Butler, Kristopher Butler (Kim), Charles Butler, Kollin Butler (Kelsey), Trey Hill (Savana), Lauren (Manuel), Austin Butler, Grady Butler, and Kayla Butler; 14 great grandchildren, sister, Judy Carter; brother-in-law, Russ Johnson; nephews, Shane Johnson and Jeff Carter; nieces, Kenny Kaye and Tessa Johnson; and many other family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5 2025, at Union Grove Christian Church with Preacher Al Lunsford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Nicholson Funeral Home is serving the family.
