Mooresville Service Unit 136 held its second annual Rope Runner Derby on March 28 at the Fuzion Teen Center, bringing together Daisies, Brownies, Juniors, and Cadettes for a fun-filled evening of racing and creativity.

Scouts eagerly arrived with their handcrafted Rope Runners, ready to put their designs to the test.

While waiting for the races to begin, they had the opportunity to create various crafts and fine-tune their Rope Runners with assistance from the experienced Scouts of Troop 13179.

What Are Rope Runners?

Rope Runners are wooden racing figures that rely on gravity and balance to speed along two parallel ropes. Each participant assembles their Rope Runner from a kit, allowing plenty of room for creativity and personal expression. Whether simple or intricately designed, every Rope Runner reflects its maker’s imagination and style.

Exciting Races and Spirited Competition

As the event kicked off, the room buzzed with excitement. Scouts took turns launching their Rope Runners, cheering on their fellow racers as the figures zipped down the ropes. The thrill of competition was matched by the camaraderie among participants, making for an unforgettable experience.

Awards and Recognition

After calculating race times, volunteers and leaders awarded medals to the top three fastest racers.

Additional honors were given in categories such as Most Creative, Leader’s Choice, Best Animal Design, and Girl Scout Spirit. To commemorate the event, every Scout received a special fun patch, marking their participation in this exciting tradition.

Looking Ahead to Next Year

The Rope Runner Derby is more than just a race—it’s a celebration of STEM learning, creativity, and teamwork. With two successful events in the books, Mooresville Service Unit 136 is already looking forward to next year’s competition.

Congratulations to all the participants—may their creativity and enthusiasm continue to race ahead!
