Evelyn Genevieve Leonard “DD” Goodman, 99, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on April 10, 2025.
A beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and joy that will be cherished forever. Born and raised in Mooresville, DD lived a long and beautiful life, full of grace, grit, and good humor. She was a devout Catholic and a faithful member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Mooresville for over 70 years. Her faith was the foundation of her life, guiding her every step and providing strength and comfort to those around her.
DD was married to the love of her life, Robert Goodman, for 41 years. He preceded her in death, and she now joins him in eternal peace. Also preceding her in death were her beloved son, Mark Goodman; and her parents, Margaret Mills and Thomas A. Leonard.
She outlived so many cherished family and friends over the decades — a quiet witness to nearly a century of change and love. She is survived and deeply missed by her children, Meg (Kevin), Bubba, Tom (Lauren), and Phil. Affectionately known as “Mamaw,” she was the proud grandmother of nine and great-grandmother of nine. Each grandchild and great-grandchild held a special place in her heart, and she treasured her unique bond with every one of them.
Each person in her life had a significant relationship with her; she made everyone feel seen, valued, and deeply loved. DD was a legend in every sense of the word. She never complained, always saw the bright side, and brought laughter and warmth wherever she went. She loved life, her family, any ball game and a good hot dog. A true sports fan, she rarely missed a Braves game — and could recall every player stat with remarkable accuracy. DD was not only a fan, but also an athlete. She remained highly competitive in a bowling league, competing until she was in her 80s. Even better, she was still driving until she was 99. Her mind remained sharp as a tack until her final breath. From remembering every birthday of every family member and friend, to keeping up with the latest great-grandkids’ game-winning goal, her memory was a marvel to behold.
An avid reader, her lifelong love of books kept her curious, informed, and inspired. Whether it was a classic novel, her monthly Magnificat or the daily newspaper, she rarely went a day without reading. DD’s 99½ years were a testament to her faith, resilience, influence, and unconditional love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to know her.
