Martha Ann “Cricket” Gaither York, 83, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, April 11, 2025.
Born in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late John Melton and Mabel Mae Harris Gaither. She was a retired training manager with The Pantry convenience store organization.
She was a member of Horizon Church, where her church family was a very important part of her life. She loved music, especially going to bluegrass pickings and gospel music singings, where the people became like a second family to her.
Martha is survived by two daughters, Pamela Diane York Burr and Teresa Leigh York Moose, both of Statesville, N.C.; four grandsons, Kendall Burr (Stephanie), Christopher Moose, Andrew Moose (Nikki), and Matthew Walker; four great granddaughters, Krista, Lila, Mattie, and Leah; and two great grandsons, Ben and Brantlee. She is also survived by one sister, Jonell Gaither Lewis (Jim) and one brother, Tommy Gaither. Also left to cherish her memory is a valuable friend of the family, Frank Steele.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one daughter, Anita Joan York; Duke Lincoln York (father of her children), two sons-in-law, Kenny Burr and David Alan Moose Jr.; one brother, John “Preacher” Gaither; one sister-in-law, Sue Gaither; and her long-time companion, James Moorefield; and their beloved family pet, Penny.
Casual funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Horizon Church, 316 Signal Hill Drive in Statesville. Pastors Charles Williams, Jason Bost, and John Powell will officiate. Burial will follow in the Clarksbury Methodist Church Cemetery in Harmony, N.C. The family will receive friends at Horizon Church from 1:30 until 3 p.m. prior to the service.
