Clement Michael “Mike” Holthouser, 79, of Cornelius, N.C., passed away on Monday, April 14, 2025.
Mike was born on November 13, 1945, in Mooresville, N.C., to the late Atta Clement “Buster” Holthouser and the late Ethel Louise Caldwell Holthouser. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sylvia Slattery and Linda Holthouser;
Those left to cherish Mike’s memory are his loving wife of 57 years, Pam Chappell Holthouser; sons, David Holthouser (Kelly Knetsche), Neil Holthouser; grandchildren Emma Holthouser (fiancé Brett Walker), Steven Holthouser (Abby), Will Holthouser (fiancée Colleen Rafter), Molly Holthouser (fiancé Connor Weeks), Max Holthouser, and Macy Holthouser; and sister, Kathy Holthouser.
Mike graduated from Mooresville Senior High School in 1963, was a member of the State Championship Football team, and earned the Earl Caldwell Trophy as a three-sport athlete. Mike went on to graduate from N.C. State, where he was a left-handed pitcher for the Wolfpack baseball team.
Mike and Pam were married in 1967 and settled thereafter in Sanford, N.C. A lifelong Presbyterian, Mike was an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and youth group leader at First Presbyterian Church. He coached his two boys in every sport they played and modeled hard work and integrity.
He returned home in 1988 as the Director of Facilities for The Pines at Davidson, a position he held until his retirement in 2008. He was a member of Davidson College Presbyterian Church.
Throughout his life, Mike was known for his good humor and his ability to connect with any audience. A talented woodworker and craftsman, he turned projects into fun for his sons and grandkids. He found joy in numerous canoe trips and Labor Day dove hunts with his close friends and their families.
He combined his interests and talents in the restoration of the family mountain home on the New River in Fries, Va., where his tradition of family gathering will continue.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Davidson College Presbyterian Church. A reception will follow the service at the Congregation House.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Pines At Davidson Resident Support Fund or Davidson College Presbyterian Church Minister’s Discretionary Fund.
