Edith Faye McHargue Harris, 83, of Statesville, N.C., entered Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday, April 21, 2025, after passing peacefully at the Gordon Hospice House. She was born in Iredell County on February 13, 1942, to the late Boyd Forrest McHargue and Mary Lee Minnick McHargue.
Edith attended Central School and later went back and earned her GED at Mitchell Community College, and from there went on to receive her credentials as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Edith was married for 41 years to the late Tony W. Harris. She worked as an In-Home Caregiver, taking care of Professor Dr. George Crawford for 14 years. Edith enjoyed spending time with her family, and her beloved dog “Lil Bit,” who was there for her until the end. She enjoyed making trips to Oakwood Cemetery to visit her family’s grave and to feed the squirrels. Edith was a devoted Christian who attended Redemption Baptist Church for many years under the late Rev. Clarence “Joe” Dellinger. She was a current member of Liberty Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Holland. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend that will be missed dearly.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, William Howard (Buster) McHargue, John Henry McHargue, and Charles Ralph McHargue. She was also preceded by two sisters, Mary Lea McHargue Lippard and Etta Mack McHargue.
Left to cherish her memory are four children, Pamela Stroud (Chuck Stroud), Donna Gutierrez (Miguel), Diana Holcomb (Sonny), and Adam Harris (Stephanie); and five grandchildren, Sabrina Caskaddon (David), Jeremy Ireland (Ashley), Dustin Stroud (Allison), Madison Watson (Jonathon) and Dylan Roy; along with eight great-granchildren, Ali, Kaley, Emily, Cody, Greyson, Easton, Paisley, and Hadley; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Liberty Baptist Church, Statesville, N.C., with Rev. Roger Holland and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gordon Hospice House, 2341 Simonton Road, Statesville N.C. The family would like to thank all the staff for their love and support throughout this difficult time.
