The Iredell-Statesville Board of Education is scheduled to discuss the district’s plan for teacher contract renewals when it meets Monday.
The Committee of the Whole meeting will be held at the Career Academy & Technical School (CATS) located at 350 Old Murdock Road in Troutman on Monday at 6 p.m. All school board meetings are livestreamed via the Iredell-Statesville Schools Facebook page.
The current COVID-19 pandemic and the related school closures have made it impossible for most districts to complete the required annual evaluation process.
Alvera Lesane, I-SS associate superintendent of human resources, explained last month that it was unrealistic to keep up with teacher evaluations during this time.
“With some of the issues with COVID-19, we are running into some issues with our formula … some schools were unable to complete their summative evaluations,” Lesane said.
Currently, the district awards teachers’ contracts for one, two and four years, which is based upon Policy #7410.
Like other school systems, I-SS relies on evaluations as a critical element in making employment decisions.
Lesane will give a presentation explaining the state’s guidance on the issue as well as the district’s recommendation on how to renew teacher contracts.
