A Statesville woman faces identity theft and forgery charges after opening financial accounts in another individual’s name and making unapproved purchases.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office began investigating on Saturday, June 20, after receiving a report about possible identity theft and financial card fraud, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.
The victim told deputies that while he was away on a business trip someone had used his personal information to open various accounts in his name used his bank card to make various transactions without his knowledge or approval, according to the news release.
Detective Craig Scannella of the ICSO Economic Crimes Unit was assigned the case. After interviewing the victim and obtaining evidence from various business locations, he identified Cody Tenile Gray, 36, as a suspect in the case.
Gray was arrested on Thursday, June 25, and charged with six counts of felony identity theft and one county of felony uttering a forged instrument. She was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where Magistrate Watkins issued a $6,000 secured bond.
I feel the same way about that. He wasn’t aware just like me. I wasn’t aware either. I was also a victim of identity theft.
They ought to make it a HATE CRIME to steal an identity! Minimum 20 years hard time with no parole possibility!
