Rotary Club members recognized for their support of I-SS students

Members of Troutman, Fourth Creek and Top of the Lake Rotary were recognized during the Oct. 12 school board meeting for their annual contributions to Iredell-Statesville Schools’ students.

Local Rotary Club members were recognized for their ongoing support of Iredell-Statesville Schools’ students during the October 12 school board meeting.

Boen Nutting, I-SS director of communications and development, said that Rotarians from the Troutman, Fourth Creek and Top of the Lake clubs contribute hundreds of thousands of dollars to district students each year.

“These are people in our community who have joined a civic organization just to do right by their community,” Nutting said.

Some contributions include providing students with backpacks, school supplies and meals and providing assistance to homeless students.

“These folks are people in our community who work in the background but they make a huge difference,” Nutting said.

Members puts in many volunteer hours to “create lasting change,” she said.

Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors, friends, leaders and problem solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change. For more than 110 years, Rotarians have used their passion, energy and intelligence to take action on sustainable projects.

There are more than 35,000 clubs in the world, which work to promote peace, fight disease, support education, grow local economies and other causes.

OTHER BUSINESS

Also, during the meeting, the school board approved CityScape as the low bidder for a roofing project at West Iredell High School. The company submitted the lowest of three bids ($118,600). The project involves removing some old roofing and replace it with new materials.

It will include removing and disposing of the existing vinyl siding installed vertically at the high/low roof wall junction, as well as removing roof drains, fascia, coping and counterflashings with new custom fabricated prefinished knyar steel components.
