Donald Kruel, 80, of Union Grove, N.C., passed away peacefully on October 31, 2020.

He was a graduate of Syracuse University College of Environmental Science and Forestry, a retired microbiologist and Vietnam Veteran. Don had a passion for nature, and he enjoyed numerous outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and camping.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 51 years, Cheryl Kruel; a sister; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Riverhead Long Island, N.Y.

Memorials may be made to Doctors without Borders, The Environmental Defense Fund or the Sierra Club.
