Ms. Eula Mae Morrison of 356 Medlin Street, Statesville, N.C., died at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville on Friday, November 27, 2020, following an extended illness. She was born in Iredell County on March 27, 1931, and was the daughter of the late Odell Morrison Sr. and Mamie Frost Morrison.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Odell Morrison Jr. and Phillip Morrison, and three sisters, Corrine Morrison Lewis, Dorothy Morrison Wilson and Joyce Inglin Bruner.
She was a graduate of Morningside High School and was a loving mother, sister and friend. She loved going places with her friends, Dolethia and Ruth, and always enjoyed chitchatting with her “special sister,” Genevieve Long. They spent hours on hours discussing community business. As a matter of fact, they were key figures in forming the Royalette Club. They sponsored bus trips to the mountains (Maggie Valley) and various other places. She loved to sing as she was a member of St. John’s Baptist Church Choir and she was also a member of the Inter-Church Choir directed by Ms. Willie McDowell.
She also liked watching musicals and all of Tyler Perry’s movies, especially “Daddy’s Little Girls.” She was employed by Janzen, Hunt Pen and Fiber Industries.
She loved to read and was death on speech and diction. If you mispronounced a word or didn’t open your mouth and talk, you may as well expect a tongue lashing. She was a structured individual and she did things in a certain way. Her Way!! If you were her friend, there is nothing she wouldn’t do for you! She spoke her mind, no matter who you were, which made her well known in and around Statesville. She may not always show it, but she loved her family dearly. She kept her grandsons and great grandsons in high-esteem, but that’s not to say she didn’t love the granddaughters. She wanted the girls to be ladies, and she always talked about how beautiful they were. But the boys could do no wrong. She was one of a kind.
She leaves to cherish the memory of her life one son, Derek L. (Reitha) Morrison Sr. of Stateville; one sister, Evelyn Morrison Brown of Troutman; one sister-in-law, Diane Morrison of Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Derek L. (Erin) Morrison Jr. of Durham, Pamela Morrison (John) Ashe of Reidsville, Candace L. Morrison of Reidsville, Ivy C. Morrison of Raleigh, Zachary E. Morrison of the U.S. Navy in Portsmouth, Va., and Eric L. Pickens of Cotton Port, La.; great grandchildren, Derek L. Morrison III, Dylan Morrison, Marilyn Claire Ashe and Madelyn Virginia Ashe. Special thanks to her nieces and caregivers, Gealdine Grimes, Robin Reinhart, Tanna Ikard and Synetta L. Raye, and extended family members, Robert (Ursula) L. Long Sr., Kevin E. Long, Stanley Long and Ora Mae Daniels Merritt; and special friends, Mildred Daniels, Ruth Lackey, Ruthie Darty, Annette Davis, Wyomia Stevenson, Ossie Davis and Betty Lou Davis; other relatives and friends.
