The Iredell County Board of Commissioners has approved economic development incentives for three industries planning to invest $36.2 million in Iredell County expansion projects.

During Tuesday’s board meeting, commissioners first approved economic incentive agreement with Pactiv LLC, Niagara Bottling and Carolina Beverage Company.

Pactiv

The agreement with Pactiv is based on an investment of $15 million with an economic incentive of up to $270,158 over a five-year period. It’s contingent upon a contract being executed within 180 days.

According to Jen Bosser, CEO of the Iredell County Economic Development Corp., the company has already invested $28 million, meaning their total investment will total $43 million.

Pactiv is an industry leader in papers and plastic packing. Based in Lake Forest, Ill., the company has employees 12,000 people globally, Bosser said.

The company plans to expand its current facility in Mooresville. The anticipated completion date is December 31, 2021.

Niagara Bottling

The second project approved was an agreement with Niagara Bottling.

The agreement is based on an investment of $12.2 million with an economic incentive of up to $241,166 over a five-year period. It’s contingent upon a contract being executed within 180 days.

Niagara Bottling is a leading manufacturer in the U.S. utilizing a state-of-the-art purification filtration and technology to produce bottled water. It’s headquartered in California.

“Since establishing their operations here in Mooresville, Niagara has been a strong community partner. They have contributed both donations, volunteer time and financial support to several initiatives across the community,” Bosser said.

Currently, Niagara employs more than 150 workers. The company plans to add a 180,000-square-fott expansion adjacent to its current facility in Mooresville.

The expansion would create eight new positions with an average wage of $17 an hour.

Carolina Beverage Company

The third project approved was an agreement with Carolina Beverage group.

The agreement is based on an investment of $9 million with an economic incentive of up to $145,811 over a five-year period. It’s contingent upon a contract being executed within 180 days.

Carolina Beverage is a contract beverage manufacturer that is headquartered in Mooresville with three facilities located across the U.S.

Their Mooresville facility currently employs more than 300 people.

“The project will add a new malt beverage line to their existing facility,” Bosser said. “The company anticipates creating between 50 to 70 new jobs with an average wage of $17 an hour.”

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business, the board:

♦ Approved a request from Emergency Management to appoint Brian Weatherman (Dominion Energy) as chairman of the Iredell County Local Emergency Planning Committee.

♦ Approved a request from Emergency Management to accept an open trailer from Mecklenburg County as part of a Domestic Preparedness Region 7 project.

♦ Approved a two-year contract with County Attorney Lisa Valdez.

♦ Approved a voting delegate for the 2021 Legislative Goals Conference. Commissioner Gene Houpe will be the primary delegate and Commissioner Scottie Brown will be the alternate.

Next Meeting

The next board meeting is January 19 at Iredell County Government Center, 200 S. Center Street in Statesville upstairs inside the commissioners’ meeting room at 7 p.m. The pre-agenda briefing is at 5 p.m. Both meetings are open to the public.
