A Greensboro man faces two felony charges in Iredell County in connection with a scheme to steal a Polaris ATV from from a dealership.

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Jeffrey Gray Hatcher Jr., 37, in a news release.

The ICSO began investigating on Tuesday, January 12, after being contacted by employees of Great Western Motorcycles, located off 1787 Salisbury Road near Statesville, who reported that a man attempting to obtain property by false pretenses.

Detectives assigned to the ICSO Economic Crime Unit learned that the suspect, identified as Hatcher, was scheduled to come to the business and purchase a Polaris RZR later the same day.

During the sales process, Hatcher had used another individual’s personal information when filling out a credit application, according to the news release. Hatcher had used the same method in December of 2020 at the dealership, Campbell said.

Detectives discovered that Hatcher had used the same method to obtain vehicles at several additional dealerships across the state, according to the news release.

After Hatcher arrived and completed the purchase of the Polaris RZR, detectives arrested him without incident, Campbell said.

Hatcher was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with felony obtaining property by false pretenses and felony attempting to obtain property by false pretenses.

Magistrate Thompson issued a $12,000 secured bond. He was also served with a warrant for a similar charge in Durham County and received a $7,500 bond on that charge.

The investigation is ongoing.
