Iredell County Sheriff’s Office investigators have charged a woman with involuntary manslaughter following an investigation into the death of a 5-month-old child.

Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of Madison Cassidy Moore, 26, in a news release on Thursday afternoon.

The ICSO began an investigation on Sunday, April 25, after responding to Moore’s home on Old Mountain Road near Troutman in response to a report of a child in respiratory distress, Campbell said.

When the responding deputies arrived at the home, Troutman Fire Department and Iredell County EMS personnel were already at the location. The child was pronounced deceased at the scene, Campbell said.

ICSO investigators and crime scene investigators responded. Moore was subsequently identified as a person of interest, and interviews were conducted, according to the news release.

Investigators also obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence.

The child’s autopsy was conducted on Tuesday. The preliminary findings identified the cause of death as environmental hyperthermia, according to the news release. This cause is consistent statements Moore made about leaving her child in a car seat inside the car for several hours on Sunday, Campbell said.

Based on the evidence gathered in this investigation, Detective John Adams obtained a warrant charging Moore with one count of felony involuntary manslaughter.

Moore was arrested earlier Thursday and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where Magistrate Chambers issued a $75,000 secured bond.
