FROM STAFF REPORTS
Iredell-Statesville Schools reported increases in the number of students excluded from school due to close contact protocols as well as the number of students who isolated after exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 during the week before the holiday break.
A total of 460 students isolated with symptoms and 1,898 students were excluded during the week of December 17-22, according to the latest I-SS report.
Eighty-four students and 31 staff members tested positive for COVID-19 during the reporting period. Thirty-four staff members were excluded due to close contact protocols.
Despite the surge in cases in the community and close-contact exclusions for students following the Thanksgiving holiday, the I-SS Board of Education voted to continue its optional masking policy.
During the latest reporting period, 15 elementary schools, nine middle schools and six high schools had at least one positive COVID-19 test.
The following schools were not face-to-face for some portion of December 17-22:
♦ East Iredell Middle;
