FROM STAFF REPORTS
More than 300 people have donated to gofundme campaign to help the family of a Mooresville Graded School District student who was seriously injured last week when he touched an energized power line.
Drew Milholland is in stable condition at the Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, where he is being treated for third-degree burns, according to a family friend who launched the gofundme campaign.
Through Monday afternoon 303 people had contributed a total of $22,010 to help the family. Tracy Lawson, who teaches with Drew’s mother at Rocky River Elementary School, set a fundraising goal of $5,000 to pay for hotel, food and gas expenses when she started the campaign.
A student at Mooresville Middle School, Drew was injured after school on January 5 when he came into contact with a downed power line while walking on private property near Mooresville Intermediate School, according to MGSD officials.
Drew is scheduled to have five surgeries during the next two weeks, and he will be hospitalized for at least four weeks, according to Lawson.
