The Iredell County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a public hearing for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 3, to receive citizen input about the proposed $126 million school bond, which would generate funding for public school construction projects.

The meeting will take place in the Iredell County Government Center, 211 South Center Street, Statesville, inside the commissioners meeting room.

Any citizen who wishes to comment during the public hearing will have five minutes to speak. Speakers can sign up in advance by contacting Amy Anderson at aanderson@co.iredellnc.us or by calling 704-878-3058, or by signing up at the meeting.

Iredell County’s growing population has prompted commissioners to move toward a vote to place the $126 million bond referendum before voters in March 2020.

That decision came after Iredell-Statesville Schools, Mooresville Graded School District and Mitchell Community College officials approved resolutions in support of a bond referendum for school construction projects last month.

The proposal includes $80 million for new I-SS high school in the southern end of the county, $35 million for a new middle school for MGSD, and $10 million for Mitchell.

County Finance Director Debra Cheek explained that an additional $500,000 for I-SS, MGSD and Mitchell will be used for possible closing costs.
