Dessie Ostwalt Campbell, 96, of Statesville, N.C., passed away Sunday, December 1, 2019, at Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Iredell County on June 19, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Gray Bynum Ostwalt and Jessie Mae Lippard.

Dessie graduated from Celeste Henkel School and worked for Dr. Long as a dental assistant. On June 15, 1946, she married Carroll Eugene Campbell, who preceded her on November 19, 2014. They shared 68 years of marriage together.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, William M. Ostwalt, Rev. Franklin Ostwalt, David Ostwalt and Rev. Albert Ostwalt; and sisters, Rachel O. Moss, Nell O. Kerley and Mary O. Munday.

Dessie enjoyed gardening, flowers and her many nieces and nephews. She was also a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she had taught the Mary Martha Sunday School Class.

Those left to cherish her memory are her brother, Lathan G. Ostwalt; and sisters, Mildred O. Elliott and Myrtle O. Freeze. She is also survived by her loving nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Thursday, December 5, 2019, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, December 6, 2019, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Kramm officiating. Burial will follow at Iredell Memorial Gardens.
