A Charlotte man faces nearly a dozen charges after Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a suspicious vehicle on Brawley School Road near Mooresville.
On Sunday, February 5, Deputy Velazquez and Deputy Zalepka stopped a vehicle that matched the description of a suspicious vehicle due to traffic violations, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.
A 17-year-old whose name was not released was driving the vehicle, which was also occupied by Jahlile Monroe Smith, 22, of Rumple Road, Charlotte, Campbell said.
During the course of their investigation, the deputies located approximately 76 dosage units of MDMA, or ecstasy, as well as a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to the news release.
Smith was arrested and charged with Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance, Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for Controlled Substance, and two misdemeanor drug offenses. He was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where Magistrate Watkins issued a $40,000 secured bond.
Deputy Velazquez was dispatched to the same area on Brawley School Road later that day in reference to a stolen vehicle. After viewing surveillance videos, the deputy determined that Smith and the juvenile were the suspects in this offense as well, Campbell said.
Deputy Velazquez obtained additional warrants charging Smith with two Counts of Felony Conspiracy, Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, and two counts of Misdemeanor Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. He was given an additional $25,000 secured bond.
Juvenile Services was contacted in reference to the 17-year-old driver. The investigation is ongoing.
According to the ICSO, Smith’s criminal history includes the following charges: Felony Larceny of a Firearm, Misdemeanor Larceny, Felony Common Law Robbery, Misdemeanor Soliciting to Conspire to Commit Felony Larceny, two counts of Misdemeanor Financial Care Fraud, and three counts of Felony Conspire Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon.
