The Iredell County Board of Commissioners will hold a public hearing Tuesday night to consider an economic development incentive for Project South.

Commissioners will hold the public hearing at 7 p.m. inside the commissioners’ meeting room of the Iredell County Government Center, 200 S. Center Street, Statesville.

The board will consider an up to $197,455 tax incentive over a five-year period based on the company’s investment of up to $17.4 million. A contract must be signed within 180 days.

The benefit to the county will be the stimulation of the local economy and the creation of employment opportunities. The board will hear more details about the project at their meeting.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other matters:

♦ The board will consider a request from Iredell County Solid Waste to purchase five vacant lots across the street from the main location on Twin Oaks Road.

Two of the lots are directly across from the main entrance and adjacent to Big Leaf Slopes Park.

County officials are recommending approval to purchase the five lots Twin Oaks Road from LandQuest LLC for $80,000. If approved by the board, the money used to purchase the lots would come from the Solid Waste enterprise fund.

♦ The board will also consider a request from the Finance Department for approval of amended contract for Martin Starnes & Associates, CPAs, P.A. to complete the annual audit for fiscal year ending June 30, 2022. There is no change in the fee from the original contract.
