A suspect in a shooting that claimed the life of a Statesville man and critically injured a 15-year-old earlier this week was jailed without bond following his arrest Friday. The Statesville Police Department is looking for two additional suspects.
Law enforcement officers apprehended Dakota Michael Duke, 25, of Old Mountain Road, Statesville, on Friday. He was processed at the Iredell County Detention Center about 3 p.m.
Duke is charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, discharging a firearm into occupied property, conspiracy and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The SPD filed those charges in connection with a shooting that occurred about 10 p.m. on Wednesday. Zion Sincere Wilder, 19, was fatally wounded when multiple individuals opened fire on a home at 610 Goldsboro Avenue, police said.
Seven other people were inside the home at the time, according to the SPD. A 15-year-old who was also shot remained in critical condition on Thursday, police said.
Law enforcement officers are looking for two additional suspects.
The SPD has obtained arrests warrants charging Tevin Seymore, 24, and Javis Black, 22, both of Statesville, with murder, attempted murder, shooting into an occupied dwelling, felony conspiracy, and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. Anyone with information about their location or the incident at 610 Goldsboro Avenue is encouraged to contact the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3406. All callers may remain anonymous.
As part of the investigation, the SPD seized a vehicle used in the crime, according to the news release.
Due to security concerns related to the shooting, Iredell-Statesville Schools officials closed the campuses at Statesville High School and Northview Academy on Friday. Students received virtual instruction.
That creepy smile on Mr. Duke’s face! One hopes life without parole will wipe the arrogannce from that murderous mug. Already a convicted felon; now, charged with kill a young man and if the 15 year-old boy in critical condition lives what will be his quality of life? Our taxes will now pay to incarcerate these pukes! I pray God will provide Comfort, strength, peace for the Mothers, families, Law Enforcement, community. Godspeed!
Two of these three broke into a neighbors house in 2017 and stole a firearm and were caught. Here is yet another example of Catch and Release and the public suffers! A quick check of Facebook will show what these convicted felons were up to in the days, weeks and months leading up to this senseless act! I hope their parents are proud of the trash they released into the world?
Dakota Duke must have thought he was posing for a driver’s license photo instead of a mug shot. Considering the charges he looks like he’s not too worried about things. As the old saying goes…”Throw the book at him!!!”
