Mooresville town commissioners on Monday approved a $111,6232 economic incentive for NGK Ceramics. The Mooresville manufacturer is planning a $9.4 million investment in machinery and equipment for its Mazeppa Road facility.
Iredell County Economic Development Corporation President CEO Jenn Bosser presented the request for the economic development incentive during Monday’s Town Board meeting.
This will be NG Ceramics’ 17th expansion in Mooresville. The company manufactures ceramic honeycombs for automotive and truck catalytic converters.
Company officials said the investment will help retain 600 employees.
Commissioners approved the incentives by a 4-0 vote. Commissioner Gary West and Mayor Pro Tem Lisa Qualls were absent.
OTHER BUSINESS
In other business, commissioners:
♦ Approved a request by Octane Park LLC to rezone 7.32 acres off Singleton Road to make way for a high-end motor vehicle storage facility. The gated development will include 44 two-story garage units. No outdoor storage will be allowed. The rezoning request passed 4-0.
♦ Approved a request from Building Permitting and Inspections to purchase 10 vehicles from Randy Marion Ford Lincoln LLC, in the amount of $277, 688. This item is funded by the budget amendment approved on 3/6/2023.
♦ Awarded a contract to Huber Technology for rehabilitation of RoDisc Filter #1 in an amount not to exceed $233,607.19. This is the final of four disc filters to be rehabilitated as planned at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
♦ Approved a request from Engineering to award a Construction, Engineering, and Inspection Contract for the East West Connector Phase 1 (NCDOT #U-6239) Project to A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. for an amount not to exceed $1,714,948.14 and approve corresponding project ordinance and budget amendments. This contract will cover construction inspection of for the referenced project throughout the construction phase of the project.
♦ Approved a request from the IT department to approve the funds for a three-year agreement with NEOGOV in the amount of $111,778. This service automates hiring by centralizing the process of attracting applicants, screening and onboarding them.
♦ Approved a request from Public Utilities and Finance to appropriate reserve in the amount of $3,961,862 to establish a new Project Ordinance for costs associated with the Town’s financial responsibility in utility relocations for upcoming NCDOT STIP projects, and amend the budgets accordingly. This project ordinance will be used to track and fund executed Utility Construction Agreements between the Town and NCDOT.
♦ Approved a request from Sanitation to purchase of a new Heil PT1000 20 Cubic Yard Rear Loader in the amount of $183,789 and approve corresponding budget amendments. This equipment replaces existing outdated equipment within the Town’s fleet. Funds totaling $180,000 were budgeted in FY23 budget but due to price increases a budget amendment will be required to make this purchase.
