The Iredell County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday will consider a request to provide an $8.4 million economic incentive to Sherwin-Williams, which is planning to spend more than $347 million to expand its local manufacturing facility.

The amended incentive, in the form of a tax break over five years, would be contingent upon a development agreement being signed within 180 days.

The board will conduct a public hearing and learn more about the project before voting on the request during its 6 p.m. meeting.

Commissioners unanimously approved changes to their meeting start times last month. The board moved its pre-agenda briefing up to 4 p.m. and the regular meeting to follow at 6 p.m. in an effort to allow staff to get home at a reasonable time. The board will continue to meet at Government Center, 200 S. Center Street in Statesville, inside the commissioners’ meeting room on the second floor.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the board will consider a proclamation designating the second full week of April as “National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week.” National 9-1-1 Education Month is also observed in April.
