Helen Louise Bowles Fulbright, 85, of Statesville, N.C., died Tuesday, December 10, 2019, at the Gordon Hospice House.
She was born in Iredell County on October 30, 1934, to the late Thomas Guy Bowles and Ottie Belle Head Bowles. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Carroll Fulbright, and a sister, Betty Jean Bowles Hope.
Helen was a member of New Sterling ARP Church. She worked for many years at Holmes Drug, and also at Statesville Drug, Revco and CVS. While working at Holmes Drug she was a “soda jerk” and enjoyed serving the people and having fun with them.
Helen loved being outdoors, especially gardening, yard work and watching birds and the clouds. She loved animals. She also enjoyed canning peaches and vegetables from her garden. Sewing, cooking and watching Food Network also brought her much pleasure. She loved listening to Christmas all year long and it seems fitting that she passed at this time of the year.
More than anything else in the world, Helen loved her one and only grandchild, a grandson, Garrett Fulbright. He was her joy and the light of her life.
Survivors include a son, Richard Fulbright; a daughter, Nancy Fulbright; a grandson, Garrett Fulbright; and two brothers, Gilbert Guy Bowles and Cecil Thomas Bowles.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2019, at New Sterling ARP Church with Rev. Earl Linderman officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to New Sterling ARP Church, 580 New Sterling Road, Stony Point, NC 28678. Fond memories and condolences may be left at www.nicholsonfunerals.com.
