A former Iredell-Statesville Schools teacher who has been released on bond twice after being charged with violating the terms of her pre-trial release while awaiting trial is back in jail.
Elizabeth Suzanne Bailey, 37, of Bluff Court, Statesville, was re-arrested Wednesday evening, Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release Thursday. She faces numerous underlying charges, including statutory rape, as a result of an earlier investigation of allegations she had a sexual relationship with a student.
As a result of a traffic accident on Saturday, May 13, in which Elizabeth Suzanne Bailey was involved along with a juvenile she was court ordered to stay away from, Bailey was arrested for Violation of Pretrial Release conditions. She was released from jail on Monday, May 15.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office initiated a new investigation as a result of evidence seized after the traffic accident, Campbell said.
Upon the completion of a digital forensic examination of Bailey’s cell phone, investigators determined that Bailey had sent additional text messages to the juvenile on her mobile device after the incident, according to the news release.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant charging Bailey with felony interfering with a state’s witness and an order for arrest for Violation of Pretrial Release conditions.
Bailey was taken into custody by the ICSO Warrant Squad members on Wednesday. She was taken to the Iredell County Detention Center, where Magistrate R. Imes issued an $830,000 bond.
