A Hickory man faces nearly a dozen charges after being apprehended by Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputies who responded to a report of a motor vehicle break-in in western Iredell County.

Kentrel Antwain Overton, 28, was taken into custody after being tracked by ICSO Canine Levi, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a news release.

On Thursday, June 15, ICSO patrol deputies responded to the 100 block of Stonefield Drive in reference to a motor vehicle break-in in progress, Campbell said. The deputies established a perimeter and attempted to locate the suspect.

Sgt. N. Hodges located a suspicious vehicle traveling in the area at high speed and attempted to stop the vehicle, the sheriff said.

The driver stopped near the 1200 block of Old Mountain Road, jumped from the vehicle and fled on foot, according to the news release.

Sgt. Hodges deployed Canine “Levi,” who tracked the suspect — later identified as Overton — more than one mile into a wooded area, where Overton was captured.

Overton was arrested and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with Felony Flee to Elude Arrest with a Motor Vehicle, two counts of Felony Conspiracy, two counts of Misdemeanor Attempt Breaking and Entering to a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Careless and Reckless Driving, Misdemeanor Speeding Excess 15 over, Misdemeanor Driving While License Revoked, Misdemeanor Resist, Obstruct and Delay, and Misdemeanor Injury to Personal Property.

Magistrate J. Hollar Overton a $75,000 secured bond on the charges.

Overton was free on a $2,500 bond at the time of his arrest in connection with vehicle break-ins in April. Sgt. Hodges and Canine Levi were involved in his apprehension on those charges as well.

According to the ICSO, Overton’s criminal history includes the following charges: Felony Possession With Intent to Sale and Deliver Marijuana, Misdemeanor Larceny, Misdemeanor Simple Affray, Misdemeanor Carrying Concealed Gun, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor Consume Alcohol Underage, two counts of Misdemeanor Driving While License Revoked, Misdemeanor Hit and Run Leave Scene Property Damage.

Overton is currently on Active Probation for Felony Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule VI Controlled Substance and Misdemeanor Hit and Run.
