The City of Statesville on Wednesday announced the appointment of Glenn Kurfees as the fire chief of the Statesville Fire Department, effective immediately.
City Manager Ron Smith, who made the hiring decision, said Kurfees’ extensive experience and dedication to public safety make him an ideal fit for the role.
“We are fortunate to have a well-trained and experienced fire professional who can step right in and focus on the department,” Smith said.
With over 18 years of experience, Kurfees has been an integral part of the Statesville Fire Department since July 2005. He succeeds Andy Weatherman, who retired earlier this month.
Kurfees served as deputy fire chief for the past three years, which has provided him with a deep understanding of the department’s operations and contributed to its growth and success. He began his journey in the fire service at the Monticello Volunteer Fire Department at the age of 16 and later progressed from a firefighter to deputy chief at the West Iredell Volunteer Fire Department.
The new chief expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to lead the SFD.
“I am aware of the trust and responsibility that comes with this position, and I am committed to upholding the exceptional standards this position requires,” Kurfees said.
He emphasized his dedication to the community’s safety and well-being, pledging to provide the highest level of service to those in need.
His vision for the department includes a focus on continuous improvement, collaboration, and innovation. Recognizing the talent within the department, he intends to work closely with his team to ensure SFD personnel have the necessary resources, training, and support to excel in their roles. Kurfees aims to enhance emergency response capabilities, prioritize firefighter safety and wellness, and foster meaningful partnerships with the community.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Kurfees cherishes his family life with his wife Selena, and their two daughters, Abigail and Ella.
So happy to see Statesville realizing we have capable personnel within its ranks The grass is Not always greener on the other side of the fence and often times it is fertilized crabgrass. Congratulations, Chief Kurfees. With a nod to Police Chief Onley as well. Way to go Statesville administration.
So proud of Glenn and the professional manner in which he takes on his responsibilities. I have watched his growth in this profession he loves since he was in middle and high school. Such a great man! Congratulations!
