Mr. Rama Cowels Bruner, 57, the son of the late Rama Cowels Bruner and Alberta Hewitt Bruner, was born in Iredell County on June 4, 1960. He peacefully passed away on Friday, July 14, 2023.

Rama attended Iredell Statesville Public Schools. He graduated from Statesville High School and was a member of Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church. Rama was preceded in death by two brothers, Dewaine Nelson Hewitt and Alfred Keith, “Mr. B” Bruner; brother-in-law, Keith Glenn; and a sister-in-law, Ann Cowan Hewitt.

He worked at Statesville Plywood and Southern Furniture, and was a security guard for Wilson Security Co.

He leaves to cherish the memory of his life one son, Deshan Maurice Mills; two grandsons, Keyshan Wasson-Mills of Statesville, N.C., and Alijah Marquee Mills of South Carolina; two brothers, Charles Hewitt and Darrell (Barbara) Hewitt, both of Statesville, N.C.; five sisters, Alice “Cokie” (Eddie) Davis of Greensboro, N.C., Rozetta (James) Harris of Statesville, N.C., Barbara Ann Bruner of Winston-Salem, N.C., Trina (Kenneth “Pitbull”) Jerry of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Andrea Glenn of Maryland; special friend, Nicole Cox; and a host nieces and nephews, other relatives, church family, and friends.
