Kathleen “Kathie” Christopher Peterson was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world peacefully and surrounded by her loved ones on July 22, 2023, at the age of 80.

She was born to Jim and Betty Christopher in Solvay, N.Y., on December 26, 1942. She attended Solvay High School and Russell Sage College before marrying Eric A. Peterson of Syracuse, N.Y., on June 9, 1962.

She was the loving mother of children Eric B. Peterson and Christopher Peterson of Mooresville, N.C., and Amy Hitchcock of Johns Island, S.C.

It was only after marriage and beginning a family with three children that she embarked on her dream to become a nurse. In 1975, after graduating from Nursing School, she went right to work at Community General Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y.

In the fall of 1977, the family relocated to Charlotte, N.C. After settling on the outskirts of Charlotte, she went back to work at the Bradford OB/GYN Clinic in Matthews. After many years of service, she hung up her nursing scrubs to take on her most coveted life role of grandmother.

Her greatest pride and joy were her grandchildren, Kelsey Peterson, Michael Peterson, Matthew Gore and Kaitlyn Peterson. She cared for them all as babies and managed to spoil each of them even as they approached adulthood.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Betty Christopher; her sister, Carole Huppman and her brother Jim Christopher III.

She is survived by her husband, Eric A. Peterson; her three children; and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 25, from 12 to 1 p.m. with a service following at 1 p.m. at the chapel of Cavin-Cook Funeral Home.
