Elwood “Eddie” Samuel Dowdy, 77, of Mount Ulla, N.C., died on August 7, 2023, while working on his farm doing what he loved.

Eddie was a lineman for 33 years for Pike Electrical Contractors. After line work, he farmed and enjoyed raising and tending to beef cattle. He regularly attended the cow sale at the stockyard in Turnersburg, N.C.

He was born December 7, 1945, in Lee County, Sanford, N.C., to the late Elwood Sonny Dowdy and Burla Ann Gilmore Schmidt. He was preceded in death by his brother, William “Bill” Ernest Dowdy; brother-in-law, Douglas Hammer; and niece, Tammy Hammer.

He is survived by his wife Virginia “Jenny” Kelly Dowdy; children, Lisa Dowdy Stapleton (Roger), Kim Dowdy Cole (Troy), and Kelly Samuel Dowdy (Holly); grandchildren, Reece Stapleton, Kacy Cole, Justin Cole, Teagan Dowdy, and Kash Dowdy; sister, Lynda Hammer Smith (Smitty); and lots of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 11, at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery with Pastor Will Gipe of Prospect Presbyterian Church officiating.
