Loretta Leigh Kennerly Stutts was born on December 22, 1940, in Mooresville, N.C., to Mary Louise Nanny Neel and William “Bill” Butler Kennerly. She made her journey to the open arms of Jesus in heaven on August 7, 2023, at the S. Mitchell Mack Hospice House in Mooresville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Mason Leon Stutts; stepfather, Samuel Wyatt Neel; stepmother, Martha Kennerly; brothers, Billy Wayne and Tony Flynn Kennerly; sister, Donna Kennerly Matthews; and stepdaughter, Cynthia “Cindy” Stutts Poole.

Momma Leigh, as many who were taught by her in Sunday School or Children’s Church called her, was a woman whose priority was to read and study God’s Word daily. She was known as a prayer warrior. As her physical health failed, her spiritual health grew stronger as she spent hours praying for her loved ones and anyone else who had needs.

Those left to cherish memories of her are her brother, Wilson B. “Toby” Kennerly (JoAnn); daughter, Saundra Radford (Donald); sons, Sam Swift and Richard Swift (Leslie); stepsons, Allen Stutts (Linda) and Marty Stutts (Barbara); nine grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2023, at Abundant Life Foursquare Church, Mooresville, with Pastor David Giles officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.
