Meghan Susan McSwain, 62, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2023. She was born November 6, 1960, in Charlotte, N.C., to Milton S. McSwain Jr. and Margaret G. McSwain on their sixth wedding anniversary.

Meghan graduated from South Mecklenburg High School before attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she graduated with a B.S. in Nursing. Although Meghan attended other universities, she was a lifelong Tarheel and made it clear her blood ran Carolina Blue. She loved Tarheel basketball and became very passionate when watching a game.

Her first career was in Nursing. She enjoyed her patients and also enjoyed teaching. She eventually realized she had another calling and attended Campbell University to earn a master’s degree in Divinity. She went on to be an ordained minister and worked as a hospice chaplain. Her passion in life was caring for her terminally ill patients and their families.

Meghan’s laugh was big and boisterous, and she felt laughter was good for the soul. As Alzheimer’s disease slowly took her away, her laughter still could ring out.

Meghan was very happy to become an aunt and loved spending time with her nephews. She was very proud of everything they did and was their biggest fan.

Meghan loved the mountains and the beach and enjoyed being out in nature. She was very friendly and enjoyed spending time speaking to people, and strangers quickly became friends. Rarely did people forget meeting Meghan.

Meghan is survived by her brother Sandor (Wei) McSwain; her two nephews, Milton S. McSwain Jr. and M. Shepherd McSwain, as well as many cousins.

A celebration of Meghan’s life and faith will be held August 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Saint John’s Lutheran Church, 740 North Center Street, Statesville, NC 28677
