It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of Mr. Gregory Lemont Wilson, better known as “Flip.” Greg, 55, who was from Mooresville, N.C., passed away on September 3, 2023, in his home. Born May 21, 1968, in North Wilkesboro, N.C., he was the son of the late Zaphon Wilson Sr. and Dorothy “Ladybug” Jean Denny Wilson.
Mr. Wilson worked as a CDL driver most of his life and was honored for his skills throughout his career. He is a veteran, having proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a boatswain for ten years. Greg had many joys in his life, riding his Busa (motorcycle) with his riding buddies Black and Jeff Minor to name a few. He loved NASCAR and was a huge Saints fan. You can’t just say Flip enjoyed grilling; HE LOVED GRILLING and was very good at it. We couldn’t wait to taste those ribs and chicken. He loved his family very deeply, and he loved his boys with everything he was. Sending healing prayers. Gregory deeply loved all his nephews and nieces to the moon and back and would be excited when any of his family would visit. Spending time with family and friends made his heart full, especially if he was GRILLING. He and his girlfriend Renee took care of his brother Mark in his home. Please say prayers for them. He would dance with you, sing to you and make you laugh until you cried or maybe write a song on the Fourth of July! Cousin Gail was like a second mother; she loved him deeply. He also loved his friend Jessie like a brother and his wife Shirelle and considered them family. Sending healing prayers.
Mr. Gregory was preceded in death by his brother, Kendall “Corky” Wilson, whom he missed every day of his life. I don’t believe he ever got over the loss of his brother. He is survived by his children, Gregory Wilson Jr., Corey Wilson and Andre Wilson. His brothers, Zaphon Robert Wilson, Anthony Carl Wilson and Mark Darren Wilson will deeply miss him. He has five grandchildren.
We will celebrate his life with a memorial service on Wednesday, September 20, 2023, at 4 p.m. at the Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Chapel, Mooresville, with Pastor Angela Minor officiating. He will be honored by the military with a gun salute followed by a procession led by the Guardians warriors. We are pulling his “Busa” with a picture in the seat to bring him for his last ride.
The service will be available for remote viewing at
