William Gary Campbell, 86, of Statesville, N.C., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 1, 2023, at the Gordon Hospice House.

Gary was born July 13, 1937, in Iredell County and was the son of the late Leroy “LR” Campbell and Mary Shook Campbell. He was a graduate of Celeste Henkel School and on May 23, 1959, he married Judy Lee Sells Campbell, who passed away April 17, 2017. Gary loved riding his Harley Davidson, gardening, yardwork, and being around the pool. For the majority of Gary’s career, he worked for Southern Screw Co. and later retired from the Iredell County School System in the Maintenance Department.

He is survived by two children, Pam C. Potts (Dale) of Statesville and Gary “Scott” Campbell of Statesville; seven grandchildren, Dusty Gatton, Katie P. Matthews (Daniel), Brandon Campbell, Krista Mahaffey, Brandi O’Bryon (Stephen), Leah Troxell (Vincent), and Harlee Campbell; nine great grandchildren; and two sisters, Frances Pauline Carpenter and Doris Lucille Watt.

In addition to his wife and parents, Gary was preceded in death by one grandson, Chase Gatton; and two brothers, Billy Ray Campbell and Carol Eugene Campbell.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, at Troutman Funeral Home with Rev. Terrie Tucker officiating. The family will visit with friends prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Troutman Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
