Jean Alice Matthews Nims, 78, of Statesville, N.C., and formerly of Ocala, Fla., and Framingham, Mass., passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C.
Jean was born January 5, 1945, in Boston, Mass., to the late Eugene and Alice Campbell Matthews. She was the wife of the late Thomas F.W. Nims, to whom she was married for 50 years. Jean is survived by her three children, Christine Nims Alsip and husband Dennis of Statesville, N.C., David T. Nims and wife Colleen of Franklin, Mass., and Suzanne Nims of Quincy, Mass.; and her grandchildren, Sierra, Jake, and Jamie Nims, all of Massachusetts.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, she leaves behind many other extended family members as well as lifelong friends.
Jean was raised in the Brighton area of Boston and attended Brighton High School, Class of 1963. She was attending hairdressing school when she met the love of her life, Tom. They married and raised their three children in Framingham. The family spent many summers on Sebago Lake in Maine. Jean and Tom retired to Ocala, Fla., in 2006 and enjoyed 12 years living the good life until Tom’s death in 2017. Jean moved to Statesville to be closer to family in 2019, where she enjoyed beautiful rides through the countryside and many hours on the front porch reading and listening to music. Jean will be remembered for her warm, kind heart, sense of humor and her love for her family. We take great comfort knowing she has been reunited with her beloved, Tom.
Celebrations of Jean’s life will be held at a later date, both in North Carolina and in Massachusetts.
