Rep. Patrick McHenry announced this week that will run for re-election in 2024.
“I am proud to announce that I will be running for re-election in North Carolina’s new Tenth Congressional District to continue my fight for the future of our country,” he said in a news release on Thursday.
“I am excited for the opportunity to continue serving my home county of Lincoln, as well as Catawba and Iredell counties. The new Tenth District also includes Yadkin County and part of Forsyth County, which I have represented previously. I look forward to reconnecting with my previous constituents and discussing how we can work together again.”
McHenry, who recently served as the temporary speaker of the U.S. House, is serving his 10th term in Congress.
In the 118th Congress, McHenry was elected as the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, a committee he has served on since he was elected to Congress.
Prior to being elected to Congress in 2004 at the age of 29, McHenry represented the 109th District in the N.C. House of Representatives. He also served as special assistant to the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor, a post he was appointed to by President George W. Bush.
McHenry is a graduate of Ashbrook High School in Gastonia and Belmont Abbey College, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History. He and his wife Giulia live in Denver with their two daughters.
