The Statesville Police Department is investigating the crash, which occurred about 3:45 p.m. on East Broad Street near the intersection with Phillips Lane.

The SPD Traffic Division initiated an investigation. Preliminary findings indicate that the school bus was slowing down in preparation to stop when an Ford F-350 pulling a trailer collided with the rear of the bus, according to a news release.

The driver of the Ford F-350 reported that a brake failure occurred, preventing the vehicle from stopping in time to avoid the collision with the school bus, police said.

As a result of the collision, one student on the school bus sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, according to the news release.
