The Iredell County Health Department is partnering with several organizations to present “Empower Minds, Break Chains,” a summit focused on addressing the intersection of mental health and substance misuse.

A collaborative effort by McLeod Centers for Wellbeing, Integrated Care of Greater Hickory, non-profits Recovery NC and Day One Recovery Homes, this event aims to foster a community understanding of these complex issues.

The summit is scheduled for Friday, December 15, at the Statesville Civic Center. It will bring together professionals, advocates, and community members to learn more about mental health and substance misuse struggles. The event is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Keynote speakers include ICGH Program Coordinator Melissa Cruse and ICGH Lead Peer Support Specialist Wayne McMeans. They will share stories designed to enhance understanding and collaboration in the realm of mental health and substance misuse.

“We’re teaming up, sharing stories that hit close to home, making sure everyone knows they’re not alone in their mental health and substance misuse journey,” said Dinikia Savage, health promotion coordinator at the Iredell County Health Department.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to connect with local resources and organizations dedicated to supporting those affected by mental health and substance misuse issues.

The collaborative effort underscores a commitment to a holistic, community-centered approach. By joining forces, these organizations aim to break down barriers, destigmatize mental health, and create a path towards lasting recovery and well-being for all.

The Statesville Civic Center is located at 300 S. Center Street in Statesville,.
