Rep. Jeff McNeely has announced his candidacy for another term in the N.C. House of Representatives.
A Republican who represents the 84th District, McNeely has been elected to two terms in the N.C. House after being appointed in July of 2019. He previously served as an Iredell County commissioner and as a member of the county planning board.
“Representing the incredible people of my district and Iredell County has been an honor, and I am humbled by the trust and support they have shown me,” McNeely said. “I am dedicated to continuing the work of securing essential funding and resources that directly impact the lives of our residents.”
Candidate filing begins Monday, December 4, and ends on Friday, December 15.
In his campaign announcement, McNeely touted his “unwavering commitment to serving the community and a proven track record of effective leadership.”
During his time in Raleigh, McNeely has worked to secure more than $140 million in the last two budget cycles in state funding for local projects. He specifically mentioned a $6 million allocation to fund veterans’ housing initiatives in Iredell County.
“Our veterans have sacrificed immensely for our nation, and I am committed to ensuring they receive the support and care they deserve,” he said.
McNeely said his candidacy would be built on a foundation of “proven results, collaborative leadership, and an unwavering commitment to advocating for the diverse needs of Iredell County.”
The primary is scheduled for Tuesday, March 5, and the general election is November 5.
You got my vote, but this emissions inspection needs to end in Iredell County. These mechanics are ripping people off, and these roads need to be paved like Old Mountain Road from county line to Interstate 40.
Do we really want someone who made racist comments on the floor of the N.C. House back in office?
$6 million on veteran housing solutions? If he really cared about veterans, he’d let John Gallina have the job of representing the 84th. Just saying everybody, this year, you have options.
I’m with Katie. John Gallina is the man to represent Iredell County District 84. Rep. McNeely didn’t mention, nor show any interest or concern for weterans housing prior to Mr. Gallina’s advocacy for it. The $6 million veteran housing solutions was first advocated for by Gallina. McNeely is just claiming the work of others as his own.
Actually Ann, it was taken out of the Budget and McNeely got it put back in. Funny thing is, your guy never asked any of the four people who represent Iredell for the appropriation.
So glad we have a viable option this time. We need someone who can represent our county in a professional manner and who is not beholden to “the caucus” and lobbyists. I’ve only lived here about 15 years and learned enough about Mr. McNeely when he was on the board of commissioners. I appreciate his service but it’s time to move on.
Who would want to take funding away from veterans. Was it because Mr. Gallina had made his intent known to run for the seat Mr. McNeely currently occupies? Sure sounds like DC/Raleigh politics!
Are any of the four that represent Iredell even on the committee that put the appropriation in the budget? No.
In fact, McNeely is twisting up the budget language to act like he has done something for Iredell. The money is not for Iredell County; it’s for veterans all across the state. Nowhere in the budget does it state the funding is for Iredell County veterans. Here is the actual budget language from the Department of Military and veterans affairs committee:
HOUSING SOLUTIONS FOR SERVICE-CONNECTED DISABLED AND AGING VETERANS SECTION 33.11. Notwithstanding the provisions of G.S. 143B-1293, of the funds appropriated in this act to the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, the sum of three million dollars ($3,000,000) in nonrecurring funds for each fiscal year of the 2023-2025 fiscal biennium shall be allocated as a directed grant to Purple Heart Homes, Inc., a nonprofit corporation, to provide personalized housing solutions for service-connected disabled and aging veterans and their families across the State.
He’s been a good leader and has my vote again.
Please, enlighten us on what he has led and done so well.
