Students from Iredell-Statesville Schools were recognized on Monday, January 13, at the Board of Education meeting for their participation in the N.C. State Math Expo.
The 2019 state competition was held at the N.C. School of Science and Mathematics in Raleigh on May 3. The regional and state Math Expos are hosted by the N.C. Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM).
The following I-SS students were selected for top honors:
Primary Division
♦ First Place: Bridsley Wozny, Woodland Heights Elementary, Rainbow Ratios
♦ Honorable Mention: Taylor Finger and Madeleine Gerlip, Woodland Heights Elementary, Cookie Time
Elementary Division
♦ Honorable Mention: Tyler Carpenter and Grady Wilson, Woodland Heights Elementary, How Many Nerf Bullets Fit in Our Rooms?
Intermediate Division
♦ First Place: Cooper Beecham, Coddle Creek Elementary, Spotlight on Me!
♦ Honorable Mention: Olivia Stewart, Cool Spring Elementary, Math + baking soda= A recipe to Pass On!
Nice to see these kids recognized for developing their mathematics skills, and kudos to the teachers and parents mentoring them! Maths are the foundation for nearly everything we do. These kids will go far. Good luck to them! I hope their joy of learning lasts them a lifetime.
