Herbert Otto Ebner, 89, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, N.C. Born on April 20, 1934, in Bronx County, N.Y., he was the son of the late Otto Ebner and Martha Hansler Ebner.

Mr. Ebner was a veteran of the United States Navy and was a electrician by trade. He had a passion for gardening and working outside. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading. One could describe him as quite the comedian and an experimental chef who loved to tell stories. He also had an extensive Christmas Village with model trains and was a lifelong New York Yankees fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Martha Ebner. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of almost 59 years, Maria Irlinger Ebner; his daughter, Elizabeth Griffin and her husband Danny; son, Richard Ebner and his wife Caren; grandchildren, Brittney, Brianna, and Guy; great-grandson, Shaun Jr.; his sister, Johanna Gorham; nieces, Janice, and Lydia and her husband Phil; and many other extended family members in Germany.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at a later date in the Chapel of Nicholson Funeral Home. Burial will follow the Memorial Service in Salisbury National Cemetery.
