Grover Meetze III

Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell announced the arrest of  Grover Cleveland Meetze III, 78, of Hillside Drive, Davidson, in a news release Thursday.

On Wednesday, Deputy Zalepka and Sgt. B. Owens, who are assigned to the ICSO Community Oriented Policing Unit, responded to 1661 Mecklenburg Highway in reference to a report of a domestic assault.

When they arrived at the home, the deputies spoke with home health workers, who told the deputies that they discovered the victim, who is 80 years old, had injuries possibly related to being forcibly restrained, according to the news release.

Through additional investigation and interviews, the deputies determined that Meetze had tied his wife to a bed with duct tape on several different occasions, Campbell said.

Deputy Zalepka arrested Meetze at the scene. The suspect was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with felony neglect of a disabled or elderly person with injury, misdemeanor false imprisonment and misdemeanor domestic violence.

Meetze appeared before Magistrate M. Russell, who ordered him jailed without bond due to this incident involving domestic violence.
