Iredell commissioners approve economic development incentive for Corvid Technologies

Iredell County commissioners on Tuesday approved a $721,463 economic development incentive for Corvid Technologies.

Craig Goodson, director of economic development for the Iredell County Economic Development Corporation, requested the incentive.

Corvid, which completed a $28 million expansion of its Mooresville headquarters in 2018, is planning to invest $30 million in another expansion at its Langtree campus, Goodson told commissioners.

The incentive is contingent upon the $30 million investment, the retention of 367 jobs and the creation of 27-54 new jobs, which will have an average annual salary of $71,389.

Founded in 2004, Corvid provides technology-based solutions to a diverse customer base ranging from the Missile Defense Agency to high performance motorsports.

OTHER BUSINESS

In other business:

♦ Rep. Jeff McNeely discussed efforts of the local legislative delegation to secure state funding for Iredell County.

The N.C. General Assembly appropriated $15 million for the construction of a new terminal at the Statesville Regional Airport in the 2023-2024 budget.

McNeely also touted funding for the new Public Defenders Office for the 32nd Judicial District. That office will help speed up the judicial process, he said, and alleviate pressure on the jail.

♦ Commissioners and Sheriff Darren Campbell honored Deputy Danny Williams, who is retiring at the end of January after being a sworn law enforcement officer for 50 years.

The sheriff commended Williams for his service to the community and for having the highest ethical and moral standards.

“I have tried and tried to get him to stay,” Campbell said. “He’s an officer’s officer, one in a million.”

♦ The board accepted a $500,000 Parks & Recreation Trust Fund Grant, which will pay for construction of an inclusive playground at Jennings Park. The grant requires a $100,000 local match,

♦ The board scheduled a public hearing for February 6 to consider a $912,352 economic development incentive for Project Zeus, which involves a $38 million investment by an undisclosed company.
