Martha Jane Waugh Day, 91, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, in Taylorsville, N.C. She was born on July 28, 1932, in Iredell County, N.C., to the late Cecil H. and Lula Dagenhart Waugh.

Martha graduated from Scotts School in Statesville, N.C., and after being in the work force for 35 years, she retired from Burlington Industries. She was also a lifelong member of Marvin Methodist Church in Stony Point, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Arthur “Art” Brotherton; granddaughter, Lori Campbell Hamilton; brother, Kenneth “Kenny” Waugh; and sister, Shirley Huffman.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Wanda Brotherton Kress, and Patricia Day Hinkle; grandchildren, Kimberly Campbell Hutton, Zackary Alan Hinkle, Alana Dawn Baker, James Brotherton, and Crystal Brotherton Gibson; great grandchildren, Sydnie Nicole Hutton, Christian Cole Hutton, Vincent “Vinny” Johl Hamilton, and Blakely Belle Seabright; brothers, Marvin “Mutt” Waugh Sr., and William Bryant Waugh Sr.; and sister, Mary Jean Summers.

Visitation will be held on Friday, February, 2, 2024, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Marvin Methodist Church. A service to celebrate Martha’s life will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Rob Waugh and Pastor Jerry Rogers officiating.
