Mr. Dewey O’Neal Gilleland, 85, of Statesville, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at the Sherrills Ford Hospice.

Mr. Gilleland was born in Iredell County on October 27, 1934, and was the son of the late George Dewey Gilleland and Zula Troutman Gilleland. He attended Iredell County Schools, and he was married to Mary Pearl Fox Gilleland, who preceded him in death in July of 1998.

Mr. Gilleland served his country proudly with the U.S. Army. He worked for over 25 years with J.C. Steele & Sons before retiring in 1998.

In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Arlene Gilleland, and a brother, Max Gilleland.

Mr. Gilleland is survived by one son, Gary Gilleland (Annette) of Statesville, and two great-grandchildren, Kara and Bella Lynn.

Funeral services for Mr. Gilleland will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2020, at Damascus Baptist Church with Rev. Dale Wallace officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Iredell Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends on Thursday, January 23, from 6:30 until 8 p.m. at Nicholson Funeral Home.
