Betty Lou Byers Fortner, 86, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Monday, February 19, 2024, at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville, N.C. She was born January 17, 1938, in Catawba County, N.C., and was the daughter of the late Bob Belton Byers and Alva Louise Cornelius Byers.

She was a graduate of Bandys High School and attended Mitchell College. On June 13, 1958, she was married to Charles Fortner, who survives. She was a member of Olivet Baptist Church, Long Island, North Carolina, and was a bookkeeper for Kivett Oil Company for over 30 years. She was a past member of the American Business Women’s Association (ABWA) and was also a former member of Credit Women International. She enjoyed beach trips, picking up shells and working with her flowers.

In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by a son, Craig Fortner, and her brother, Bob Byers II.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Charles Fortner; two daughters, Barbara Saltz (Cam) and Alison Fortner; three granddaughters, Lauren Wolfe (Mars), Amanda Onley (Chris), and Taylor Egerton (Drew); three great grandsons, Anders Wolfe, and Bentley and Davis Onley; nephew, Bobby Byers; and niece, Cathy Hefner. Her beloved cat, Peanut, also survives.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 23, 2024, at 1 p.m. in the Troutman Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Sandy Gregory officiating. The family will visit with friends from 12 until 1 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial at Oakwood Cemetery will be at 2:30 p.m. following the funeral service.
