R. Fred “Freddie” Younce, 86, of Mooresville, N.C., passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. He was born on January 7, 1938, in Mecklenburg County, N.C., to the late Fred and Lois Coleman Younce.
Fred was born at St. Peter’s Hospital and grew up in Charlotte. He gives his thanks to his High School English teacher Thomas Freeman for encouraging him to graduate West Mecklenburg High School. He lived at Lake Norman for 56 years and was a lifelong NASCAR fan. Fred owned and operated Younce Service in Charlotte with his dad and retired in 1990. He enjoyed gardening, boating, and NASCAR races. Fred valued hard work and manners and raised his family with the same values.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Walter C. “Sonny” Younce, Sue Correll, Alyce Helms; and Lundy Hartis.
Those left to cherish Fred’s memory are his wife, Sandy Middleton Younce; sons, John Younce, and BJ Younce and wife Dawn; grandson, Jaster Younce and Sherry L. Odum.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
