Mrs. Millicent Elaine Grant Lackey, affectionately called “TeTe,” was born in Iredell County on November 25, 1956, and was the daughter of Mrs. Elaine Barrett Grant and the late Kenneth L. Grant Sr. She peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at her home following an extended illness.

She attended Hampton University and later N.C. A&T State University in Greensboro. She was employed for many years in the Virginia School System as a teacher. She was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

She was married to Dennis Lackey, who survives.

In addition to her husband and mother, Elaine, she is survived by her siblings, Karen Brooks of Norfolk, Va., Kenneth (Pamela Daye) Grant Jr. of Statesville, N.C., and Tonia Grant Morrison of Statesville, N.C.; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Michael (Kathy) Lackey, Vanessa Lackey, Janet Harris, Christopher (Sharon) Daniels and Darlene Barber; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, neighbors, church family and friends.

Celebration of Life Services will be conducted Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at 12 noon at Mt. Pleasant AME Zion Church in Statesville. Rev. Dr. Gregory K. Moss, Sr. will officiate.
