The Salvation Army of Iredell County held a volunteer appreciation luncheon recently at the Gatherings Event Center in Statesville to honor those who helped the nonprofit accomplish its mission in 2023. About 60 people, representing many different organizations, attended the event.

“Although we are at work serving those in need every day of the year, it takes an “Army” of folks to serve over 800 Iredell County children with toys and warm clothes for Christmas,” Major JoAnn Mure said.

Applications were taken from area families that were referred to the Salvation Army through the Statesville Housing Authority, Iredell County Department of Social Services, Iredell County Partnership for Young Children, I-Care, Iredell-Statesville Schools and the Mooresville Graded School District.

Volunteers helped take applications, placed an Angel Tree in their businesses, helped pick up and sort gifts and then presented the gifts to families when it was time for them to pick up. Volunteers also used their time and talents to help the Salvation Army raise needed funds that serve those in need throughout the year.

Major Joe Mure said that he and his wife JoAnn are blessed by the incredible spirit of the volunteers in Iredell County.

“We can’t do what we do without the support of this great community!” he said.
