Special Treasures, an upscale thrift store in Statesville, is excited to announce the acquisition of the historic Gordon Building in downtown Statesville. The closing of the purchase was recorded April 2.

With this purchase, the agency will begin a multi-year project to renovate the property located at 214 North Center Street, culminating with the opening of a new retail space and state-of-the-art resource center that will serve youth in foster care and their families.

The new resource center, a joint venture between Special Treasures and The Children’s Homes of Iredell County, will provide a hub of support and services for youth in foster care, as well as their families. Through a range of programs and resources, the center aims to empower and uplift vulnerable youth, helping them build brighter futures and stronger communities. Special emphasis will be placed on providing educational support, life skills training, workforce development, foster parent classes, and access to prevention services to help families stay together.

“We are thrilled to announce this exciting new chapter for The Children’s Homes of Iredell County,” said Kevin Angell, the nonprofit’s executive director. “By opening this resource center, we hope to make a meaningful impact on the lives of youth in foster care and their families in our community. Together with Special Treasures, we are committed to creating a supportive and nurturing environment where these young individuals can thrive and succeed.”

The renovation project of the Gordon Building will kick off in the coming months. Special Treasures and The Children’s Homes of Iredell County are calling on the community to join them in this endeavor, whether through volunteer opportunities, donations, or other forms of support.
